We have established through our various social media platform that the month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Pink October.
It is a special time to honor those living with breast cancer, recognize the struggles faced by those diagnose with breast cancer, celebrate the extraordinary strength of survivors, and also educate ourselves about this issue.
Breast Cancer is the abnormal or rapid growth of cells in the breast. It primarily affects women but men can be diagnosed too with breast cancer so awareness on this matter is very important. Early detection is key.
Why Awareness matters
1. Early detection saves lives; Regular self-exam and mammogram can help find breast cancer when it is easier to treat. Routine screenings can catch issues before they become serious. Are you unsure on how to do a self-exam, we will share tips later in this post, please keep reading.
2. Support for families and patients: The disease breast cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed; it also impacts their loved ones too. Showing support can mean a lot to someone going through the battle.
How can you get involved?
1. Educate yourself: Learn about risk factors, preventions, symptoms, understand self-examination, follow recent research and development, and utilize online resources.
2. Get screened: if you haven’t done a mammogram or you are due for one, please get it now. Set appointment and encourage your loved ones to do same.
3. Share on social media. Use your platform to spreads the word. Share facts, resources, start conversations, raise awareness. You can also do so by using the hashtag #Breastcancerawarenessmonth
Self –Exam tips.
Here are quick guide on how to perform a breast self-exam.
Step 1: Stand in front of a mirror with your arm at your sides. Look for any changes in size, shapes or color changes.
Step 2: Raise your arms and look again for changes.
Step 3: Lying down, use your fingertips to feel along the breast moving in a circular motion. Don’t forget to check underarm area.
Step 4: If you notice anything usual, like lumps or changes, visit a professional doctor.
